Start the Future: New Generation DAF makes UK debut at ITT Hub

Following its widely acclaimed pan-European launch on 9th June, the New Generation DAF range is all set to ‘Start the Future’ with the arrival this week for its first public outing in the UK and Europe at the ITT Hub show in Farnborough.

Undoubtedly the star attraction for truck operators at the inaugural event in Hampshire will be the range-topping New Generation DAF XG+ 6x2 tractor unit in ‘FTG’ axle configuration, with maximum rated 13-litre 530bhp engine and cavernous, ultra-high specification new cab – and available to order now in the UK.

Production of the New Generation DAF will commence in October with right-hand-drive trucks for the UK market being built in Britain at Leyland Trucks in Lancashire. Full details of the New Generation DAF range, including the interactive Virtual DAF Experience and downloadable App, can be found here: startthefuture.com

Co-starring alongside the New Generation DAF at ITT Hub will be the market-leader’s LF Electric and CF Electric zero-emissions trucks – also being exhibited for the first time at a UK show since going on sale here at the turn of the year. DAF will also be showcasing its PACCAR charging solutions for electric vehicles. Both the LF Electric rigid and CF Electric 4x2 tractor are also now available in the UK and offered with a dedicated pre-sales and aftersales support programme. Completing the show line-up is a DAF CF 410 FAW ‘tridem’ 8x4 rear-steer rigid in tipper spec – the latest in DAF’s extensive range of multi-axle vehicles for construction and other vocational applications.

“We’re especially excited to be at ITT Hub,” said DAF Trucks Marketing Manager, Phil Moon, “not least because, finally, it’s a return to a proper boots-on-the-ground exhibition, but particularly as we have some amazing new products to present to operators for the first time.

“Stealing the show, naturally, will be our fantastic New Generation DAF. We have a top-of-the-range XG+ 530 FTG 6x2 tractor and we can’t wait to show it off. With new LF Electric and CF Electric trucks taking a bow for the first time,” he said, “we’re gearing-up for a hectic few days in Farnborough.”

New Generation DAF – ultimate in safety, efficiency and refinement

The New Generation DAF represents a completely new heavy truck range from DAF Trucks. It follows the prodigious success of the existing XF range which has been central to DAF Trucks’ market-leading position in the UK for the past 26-years. Current DAF XF models will remain in production in parallel with the New Generation DAF line-up.

Central to the completely re-designed New Generation DAF range is the latest European ‘masses and dimensions’ legislation which DAF Trucks has fully exploited to produce three new truck models – the XF, XG and XG+ – each offering significantly improved fuel efficiency, safety, unrivalled space and superlative levels of comfort and connectivity. The new legislation has allowed DAF Trucks to fully focus on aerodynamics – helping significantly towards delivering an overall potential 10% fuel saving for operators. The new streamlined, tapered and elongated cabs contain a whole host of ‘smart features’ to ensure the New Generation DAFs are also the safest heavy trucks on the market.

Improved visibility provided by a large, curved windscreen and larger side windows can be further enhanced by the optional ‘DAF Digital Vision System’ which replace main- and wide-angle exterior mirrors. The ‘DAF Corner View’ can also be optionally specified as a replacement for the close proximity kerb-view and front view mirrors.

Under the skin, powertrains and drivelines have received comprehensive enhancements to deliver substantially improved performance and efficiency.

LF Electric and CF Electric – zero-emissions solutions now available in the UK

DAF Trucks is also delighted to introduce ITT Hub show-goers to its new LF Electric and CF Electric zero-emissions trucks. Seen for the first time in the UK, the new 19-tonne GVW DAF LF Electric is the latest full-electric, zero-emissions truck from the UK market-leader. It is joined by its larger DAF CF Electric stablemate in 4x2 tractor configuration at the ITT Hub, and is also offered as a 6x2 rigid variant. Both the LF Electric – designed and built in Britain at Leyland Trucks in Lancashire – and the CF Electric are available to order now for UK operators.

DAF Trucks is also displaying a 40kW example from its range of mobile PACCAR battery-charging stations – one of an extensive range of mobile and fixed battery-charging solutions from DAF Trucks’ parent company, PACCAR inc. More information on DAF Trucks’ full-electric vehicles and charging solutions can be found in the accompanying press material.

DAF CF tridem ‘FAW’ to the fore

Completing DAF Trucks’ ITT Hub cast-list is the company’s latest multi-axle offering for vocational applications – an 8x4 rigid in DAF’s ‘FAW’ tridem axle configuration. On show is a CF 410 FAW with a 11-litre 410bhp engine, 12-speed TraXon automated transmission and Wilcox tipper body. The FAW set-up strikes the optimum balance between on- and off-road traction and high manoeuvrability, benefiting from a robust double-drive bogie and rear-steer capability. This seriously capable truck, introduced to the DAF range in 2019, boasts a new 10-tonne front-axle to bring additional loading tolerance across the FAW chassis, and also to other configurations in the DAF range.

The FAW offers particular appeal to operators who may have previously used a 6x4 26-tonner and who wish to retain a high degree of manoeuvrability. While the FAW delivers the key feature of outstanding manoeuvrability, the move to 32-tonnes GVW also offers the significant bonus of an extra five-tonnes of payload; tippers and mixers needing to negotiate narrow rural lanes or congested city streets being the obvious beneficiaries.
